  2007  AFC SUMMER CAMPS

FOR BEGINNERS AND EXPERIENCED FENCERS AGES 10 – ADULT

  Session 1 June 18-22 / Session 2 July 23-27, 2007

We are pleased to be celebrating the 25th year of hosting our summer camps.  We have one of the finest fencing facilities in the U.S., with 7,000 sq ft of space, 9 strips on a raised wood floor, locker rooms w/ showers, plenty of air-conditioning, armory, and weight training area.

The 2007 Coaching Staff:  Camp Director is Maestro Gene Gettler.  Many of Gettler’s students have become regional and national finalists and champions, including one pupil who made two Olympic Teams.  Gene teaches foil, epee, and sabre.  Carlos Bruno is an “A” rated epeeist, who was a finalist (5th, 8th) in the 2006 Division I NAC’s in Houston and Sacramento.  Carlos is ranked 14th  overall  in the U.S. point standings.   He is the current and 2-time Southeast Epee Champion, and teaches epee and foil.  John Terris assists in foil and epee instruction at the Atlanta Fencers Club and is a “D” rated epeeist.

Daily group and individual instruction sessions are geared to help both the beginner and experienced fencer strengthen their fundamentals and tactical skills.  Group activities emphasize lots of fun while improving your fitness and footwork.  Extensive electrical bouting takes place each afternoon, allowing the coaches to give you feedback on your use of techniques and on-strip strategies.  Break period activities include review of world class fencers on DVD’s, discussions about rules, tactics, etc, and basic weapons repair.

The camp is held from 9am – 4pm each day.  The campers are welcome to stay and fence with the Atlanta Fencers who come in from 5pm – 9pm.  We will have a barbecue lunch on Wednesday and a pizza party on Friday.  Campers should bring a lunch the other days as well as daily snacks.  Sports and soft drinks, and bottled water are available for purchase.

TO REGISTER:    The camp fee is $250 for one session or $425 for both sessions.  A $125 non-refundable deposit is due with your application by June 1st for the first session and July 1st for the second session.  The balance may be paid upon your arrival to camp.  Late applications will be accepted if space is available, with a $25 late fee.  Lodging for campers is available on a first-come, first-serve basis with some of our local fencers.  Information on nearby motels can be provided upon request.

If we can be of further service, please call the club after 4pm or Gene at home (678/608-0292).  We look forward to seeing you this summer!
