2012 AFC Summer Camp
June 18-22 and July 16-20, details TBA.

Camp Director is Maestro Gene Gettler, head coach at AFC and Centennial HS. Many of Gettler’s students have become regional and national finalists and champions, including one pupil who made two Olympic Teams. Gene teaches foil, epee, and sabre. Prevot John Terris ably assists in foil and epee instruction at the Atlanta Fencers Club. John has completed his Prevost certification (foil and epee) and Moniteur of sabre with the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association. John is also the Director of the AFC Fitness and Conditioning Program, and is head coach for the Cherokee Fencing Club, Decatur Fencing Alliance, and the Kennesaw State University Fencing Club.

Moniteur Ed Nolan is a “D” rated epeeist, and a nationally rated Veteran in all 3 weapons. Ed is an assistant coach at the Atlanta Fencers Club. Ed has achieved Moniteur d’ Armes certification. Other highly rated fencers will be both attending the camps and serving as mentors to the younger and less experienced fencers.

Daily group and individual instruction sessions are geared to help both the beginner and experienced fencer strengthen their fundamentals and tactical skills. Group activities emphasize lots of fun while improving your fitness and footwork. Extensive electrical bouting takes place each afternoon, allowing the coaches to give you feedback on your use of techniques and on-strip strategies. Break period activities include review of world class fencers on DVD’s, discussions about rules, tactics, etc, and basic weapons repair.

The camp is held from 9am – 4pm each day. We will have a barbecue lunch on Wednesday and a pizza party on Friday. Campers should bring a lunch the other days as well as daily snacks. Sports and soft drinks, and bottled water are available for purchase.

TO REGISTER: The camp fee is $250. A $125 non-refundable deposit is due with your application by July 15th. The balance may be paid upon your arrival to camp. Late applications will be accepted if space is available.

If we can be of further service, please call the club after 4pm, or Gene on his cell, 404/702-6204. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
