Gene Gettler



Maitre d'Armes. Gettler earned his certification as a Fencing Master in 1977 from the American Fencing Academy at Cornell University, and founded the Atlanta Fencers' Club that same year. Many of his students have become regional and national finalists and champions, including one pupil who made two US Olympic Teams. Also an accomplished fencer, Gene was a bronze medalist in foil in the 1998 Div. II Nationals, has been US Masters Champion twice, Southeast Section Foil Champion twice, and twice has been the Southeast Section Epee Champion. Gene is also a faculty member teaching fencing at Emory University and Head Coach of the Centennial High School Fencing Team.Gene is also dedicated to the training and certification of Fencing Coaches. Gene is currently serving as SE Vice-President for the United States Fencing Coaches Association. .


John Terris



John Terris – has been certified by the US Fencing Coaches Association as a Prevost in Epee and Foil, and is studying under Maitre Gettler to earn his Maitre d'Armes certifications as a teacher of Fencing. John is training a number of the top epeeists in the region. John is the coordinator and head instructor of AFC’s satellite programs offered at recreation centers, schools, and to home school groups. He also coaches the Kennesaw State University Fencing Club. John is the Director of the Atlanta FC fitness and conditioning program. He has been fencing for 14 years.


Anthony DuBose



Instructor in Foil, Anthony brings to the AFC Staff his vast competitive experience as an Elite National Competitor. Anthony started fencing under Maestro Gettler at the age of 14.
Among his many accomplishments, he was a U.S. Junior Olympic finalist, NCAA Champion for Penn State, 9th place at Div I Senior Nationals, Southeast Section Foil Champion, and Temple Open Champion. Anthony qualified for several Junior National Teams, and was a member of the 1991 US Olympic Festival Team in Los Angeles.
Anthony is studying under Maestro Gettler to earn his coaching certification, and ably assists in Youth and Adult classes as well as AFC satellite programs.


Ed Nolan



Moniteur d’Armes, is also studying under Maitre Gettler to earn his coach’s certifications. Ed is nationally rated in Sabre, Epee and Foil, and is an assistant coach at the Atlanta Fencers’ Club. Ed is particularly an excellent mentor to less experienced fencers. Ed also teaches fencing at the Atlanta Speech School.
